Spring Poem
Time steadies the mind,
     but only as far
          as the pendulum
               swings.
Quicksand in an hour glass blows
around in confusing swirls
as the spring wind passes over us.
This new chapter opens up
but not before reminding us
of the nature of our future.
Dawn rises, dark and gray,
with fear blanketing our thoughts
like the morning dew.
Curious, we hesitantly step forward
and wind up soaking our feet;
but as the sand falls and taunts us
while the wind whispers encouragement in our ears,
we continue.
As the morning steadily grows and brightens,
so, too, do our thoughts and outlook
for what lies ahead.
This may be our last year,
but the storm changes –
the wind is at our backs to guide us now,
quelling our fear.
We stand with the wind as the sand spreads gently upon the ground
and opportunity grows for our lives
to start
anew.
