Caleb Case
"The Cult"
4/5/16
Prologue
“Hey Caleb, look at that car.” I didn't look up from my downward gaze. “Caleb?” Jason shook me a little
“Hm?” I snapped back into reality.
“You alright Caleb?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just-“ Jason looked down at the newspaper in my hand that I was reading. He grabbed it out of my hand and held it in front of me.
“What does that say?”
“Buy one, get one free at-“
“Wrong side.” Jason flipped the newspaper.
“Tenth child to go missing this month, police investigating the mass disappearance of the thirty kids in the past three months, possibly kidnapping.”
“You know what this is?” Jason asked me.
“Wha-“
“Lies! That's what this is. All these ‘disappearances’ are happening in other towns. They just want attention.”
“A lot of fuss over a need for attention.”
“You're hopeless.”
“I know, lemme get that buy one, get one free.” Jason crumpled up the newspaper and threw it away. “Aw come on.” Jason stared at me. “Fine, lets go home.”
“Yeah!” Jason started running down the street. I followed behind him. “So childish”
“Caleb and Jason Costa, 12 years old, brothers, targeted for re-education.”
I was laying in my bed and staring at my ceiling. My stomach started to growl. “Time for a midnight snack.” I hopped out of bed and made my way to the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen and noticed a person rummaging through our fridge. The person noticed me and we stared at each other. He had a cow skull covering his face. I was next to the pantry. I slowly opened it but kept my eyes on the intruder. I looked into the pantry and grabbed what I thought would help me in this situation, a box of Goldfish. Cow man was still there in front of the fridge. I opened the box, took out a goldfish, and ate it. Then I threw the box at the person and ran for my room. I got into my room and slammed the door. Then I noticed a tall person with a cow skull standing in my room. “Sup.” he raised his fist and punched me in the face, knocking me out.
Chapter 1: In a predicament
I drifted into consciousness. “What the heck was that?” I could hear someone say.
“I was hungry.”
“You're lucky he didn't get away.”
“They did have good food though.”
“Man… did you grab me something?” I drifted out of consciousness.
I woke up and sat up. There were bars like a jail cell and brick walls around me. “I seriously hope this is a bad dream.” it was dark past the bars so I couldn't see what was past them. I got up and walked up to the bars and tried to see into the darkness. A cow skull bursts out of the darkness. I jumped back and screamed like a little girl.
“Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you.” I stood back against the wall, staring at the floating cow skull.
“Fl…Cow…thing.” I couldn't make words. Then the darkness went away as the room was lit up by candles. The floating cow skull had a crimson red rob covering it's body from the neck down. I sighed in relief. “Oh thank god you're not a floating cow skull.”
“Why would you be relieved by that?”
“Floating cow skulls are like my number one fear.”
“So you not knowing where you are, the hooks and empty cages hanging from the ceiling, the candles lighting up on their own, and the red robe, doesn’t scare you?”
“No, I don't see why they would.”
“Okay, I don't know how to talk to you.” the cow person around and walked through an open heavy metal door. “I'll be back.” he closed the door.
“Caleb, is that you?” I heard a voice call my name. I walked up to the bars and looked around. “Over here.” I looked in the direction the voice was coming from. I noticed a shard of glass being held out. I saw Jason in the reflection.
“There you are Jason.”
“Caleb, I'm scared.”
“Don't be a baby Jason.”
“How can I not be scared, that guy’s red robe was really spooky.”
“What got me was that floating cow skull.”
“I would, so what are we gonna do now?”
“Give me two days. I'll come up with a plan to get us out of this predicament.”
Chapter 2: One day and 23 hours later
What I've learned over the past day is that these guys are a ugly and they're the ones responsible for kidnapping the kids. They try to ‘re-educate’ us to follow their God or something like that. I was in my cell when Jason called to me. “Hey Caleb, do you have a plan?”
“I said to give me two days, it's only been a day and twenty three hours!” one hour later. “Okay Jason, I've got a plan.”
“What is it?” I held out a hair pin.
“I'm gonna pick the lock.”
“And that took you two days?!”
“Don't complain.” after a few minutes of fumbling I got the door open. “I'll get you out of here Jason.” then I heard footsteps coming from the door. “After I hide.” I hid in a nearby closet and left it open a crack to see. The heavy metal door opened and cow man walked in. Jason was shaking in fear. Then he pointed at my hiding spot. Cow man started walking towards me “Oh you son of a-“ he opened the closet . We stared at each at each other. “Sup.” he grabbed me and dragged me out of the closet.
“I'm sorry!” I heard Jason say as I was dragged through the metal door and down a hall. I started to see a shining light down the hall. Then we entered a massive done shaped room lit by candles. The walls of the room were rock, like were underground. The room was filled with cultists with their hands together. The person dragging me placed me in a chair in the center of the entire room and tied my hands together and walked away. An old guy , with a lot of wrinkles and a scar over his right eye, appeared out of the darkness a few feet in front of me.
“My followers, this boy, Caleb Costa, tried to escape. He will be judged by our almighty God. Let us summon him.” he put his hands together. Then everyone started to speak a language I wasn't familiar with. After a few minutes of their chanting the ground started to rumble. The ground around me fell apart, revealing lava and fire. Then a large, crimson red giant with horns on his head came out of the lava. I put on of my legs across the other, cleared my throat, and spoke.
“Sup.”
