Before a Candle I Stand
I
Before a smothering candle-light I stand… I only stand wondering why I lit the candle and the light, the rejected light, is losing its raison detre. Can light be smothered with a corrupt air? can the land of flames be smothered by corrosion? II May be, man is really the measure of all things, good and evil, if he is really the master on earth. In him both darkness and light are measured. There is darkness within his light And this is his down fall… as I stand before his smothering candle-light. |
