Dream

To rest is a desire
to dream for a restless mind,
for those who had felt
their dreams never granted
trapped inside a body
with no spine to try
perceived with weary eyes
a system of venom
poison of the very devil
few men could defy.

And we hold these truths
to be self evident,
that all peoples are created equal,
and that
"Hate cannot drive out hate"
a great man still says,
"Only Love can do that."

"A riot is the language of the unheard"
a great soul speaks again,
so a day may arise
where a person is not limited to their dreams,
and measured by mind and grit,
not by epidermis,
and people romance by the beating of their hearts,
not by mere path of ethnicity.

A life of thirty-nine years,
of which has been holiday for thirty-two,
a soul at rest, though the words still echo,
in observance of the day to elate and sing,
the day of Dr. Martin Luther King.
